Why EMI Matters in NEV?

core interference sources

  • High-voltage system: Battery packs (400V/800V), inverters, and DC-DC converters generate strong common-mode noise.
  • High-frequency switching: SiC/GaN devices introduce wideband interference in the MHz to GHz range.
  • Dense wiring: High- and low-voltage harnesses run in parallel, easily causing crosstalk; signal lines such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet are highly sensitive.
  • Metal body cavity effects: Can easily form resonances, amplifying interference in specific frequency bands.
Severity of consequences
Control-unit malfunction → potential safety hazards
Communication failures → functional breakdowns
Failure to pass vehicle EMC certification → project delays and soaring costs

Chassis Domain Control System (CDC)
The chassis domain control system integrates safety-critical functions such as electronic braking (IPB/IBC), steer-by-wire (SBW), and active suspension. These high-precision ECUs are densely deployed in the chassis area and operate in a harsh electromagnetic environment generated by electric drive systems, high-voltage battery packs, and power converters—making robust EMI control essential.
Battery Management System (BMS) & Battery Pack
The BMS serves as the “intelligent core” of a new energy vehicle’s high-voltage battery pack, continuously monitoring cell voltage, temperature, and current while managing balancing and safety protection. Inside the battery pack, densely routed sensing harnesses and high-power circuits are highly susceptible to electromagnetic interference, which can degrade SOC/SOH accuracy and pose potential safety risks.
Motor Control Unit (MCU) & On-Board Charger (OBC)
The MCU and OBC act as the "power heart" and "energy gateway" of new energy vehicles. The MCU converts high-voltage DC from the battery into three-phase AC to drive the motor, while the OBC transforms external AC power into battery-ready DC. Both integrate high-power IGBT/MOSFET devices, high-speed control ICs, and complex communication modules, operating under harsh electromagnetic conditions defined by high voltage, high current, and high-frequency switching.
Smart Cockpit & ADAS Sensors
The smart cockpit integrates high-resolution displays, high-performance computing (HPC), 5G/V2X communication modules, and multimodal human–machine interfaces. ADAS systems incorporate millimeter-wave radar, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and LiDAR. These high-density, high-bandwidth electronics operate in confined spaces, making them highly susceptible to internal crosstalk and external EMI—potentially causing display noise, communication errors, or sensor misdetection that impact user experience and driving safety.
